Testers' Makes

SnapN'Go Duffle Bag was inspired by my recent Japan trip.

I went crazy buying as many popcorn buckets as I could from Disneyland! I had difficulties pushing the luggage while using a shopping bag as shopping bags do not have luggage sleeves for security. I kept stopping to prevent the bags from falling off luggage while keeping an eye on my daughter to see if she can cope with her own luggage and shopping bag. Another crazy mama's day trying to keep everything in order.  I need a Magic Bag!

Slim and Regular versions.
Both are the same sizes with Regular version catering to thicker fabric base.

The first test was with a reversible zipper pull. I was not happy with the end results as it looked ugly and bulky with the seat belt webbing squished into the zipper pocket. Reversible zipper pulls are also not a common hardware amongst bag makers. The second test using Kam Snap closure was a success. Further tests with different webbing sizes were also completed to ensure it can support heavy loads of 15lbs (6.8kg)!

In the midst of testing, Regular version was created for ease of folding the fabric into the pocket pouch. This also extended to more fabric feasibility - 335gsm fabric with a thickness of 0.3mm can be folded in with ease including a detachable strap.

Since this pattern is geared for Beginner and Domestic Friendly sewing machines, another method is introduced - the French Seams!  Plus little practice with straight binding.

Tiki board short fabric from Alchemats with 1" webbing.
* This board short fabric is a 4-way stretch fabric which may be challenging for most Beginners and your first SnapN'Go Duffle Bag.

One can always use an extra duffle bag especially when it is foldable and lightweight to carry around in their daily bag. Perfect for shopping, traveling and even to the beach!

Slim Version

  • Crease/Wrinkle resistant fabric such as polycanvas.
  • Ripstop, polyester or nylon waterproof/water resistant canvas 210D (without PVC coating).
  • Oxford 210D Polyester waterproof/water-resistant fabric will be the best since it is thin yet very durable.
  • Nylon fabric is more pliable than polyester but it tends to be more slippery which may be harder to fold into the pouch.
  • Thickness not more than 0.2 mm.

Regular Version (with Gusset)

  • Slim fabric recommendation with sewn-in adjustable straps.
  • Crease/Wrinkle resistant fabric such as polycanvas.
  • Waterproof/water resistant canvas 420D/600D.
  • Water-repellent fabric 75D with woven backing.
  • Thickness not more than 0.3 mm or 335 gsm.

Fabric Not Recommended

  • Fabric that requires interface (CW/CL).
  • Fabric that has PVC coating as it will disintegrate over time.
